Dundee MSYP Vacancy / Opportunity
Following the resignation of Dundee MSYP Evie Strange, we are excited to announce that we have a vacancy for any young person aged 14-25 living, working or studying in Dundee.
Usually, we would only open this opportunity to members of the Dundee Youth Council, however, to further our engagement and to help ensure we find the right candidate we have decided to open this fantastic opportunity to any young person who attends the registration event listed below!
What is an MSYP and what’s required?
Being an MSYP is both an exciting and challenging role. As a Dundee MSYP you will have the opportunity to engage with constituents on matters which are important to them, work with other like-minded young people from across Scotland to discuss and tackle issues experienced by Scottish young people, and will be invited to take part in local and national events and get involved in work of similar organisations. All Dundee MSYPs are accountable to the Dundee Youth Council which will support you also.
If you are a successful candidate, you will be required to:
- Attend the Dundee Youth Council meetings on a weekly basis (Wednesday).
- Attend 3 national sittings a year, usually held over a Saturday & Sunday.
- Work with other Dundee MSYPs to achieve targets set by the group and to promote youth engagement in decision making and non-party political matters.
What kind of person are you looking for?
- Any young person aged 14-25 who lives, studies OR works in Dundee City
- Self-motivated and keen to get involved
- Has an interest in local issues and youth activism
- Has good communication skills
- Is organised and has good time management
How do I put my name forward?
To register your interest for this position you will be required to come along to our next Full Council meeting on Wednesday 7th February 2018 at 6pm in Committee Room 3, City Chambers. All candidates will have an opportunity to present a 3-minute speech, which outlines their manifesto points (aims or objectives they would like to achieve during their term). The successful candidate will be chosen via a majority vote from Youth Councillors using the First Past The Post voting system. Any Youth Councillor standing for the position will not be permitted a vote.
All prospective candidates must be aged between 14 and 25 and must live, work or study in Dundee. Any candidate unable to attend the next Full Council meeting (on Wednesday 7th February) will not be able to stand for the position.
Please note: This is a voluntary position. Dundee Youth Councillors and MSYPs are supported by our Chair and experienced Community Learning and Development (CLD) staff. Find out more about the Scottish Youth Parliament and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Feel free to share this post with any young people who you think may be interested.
